Our Story

The Western NL Food Hub started with a simple question: How can we easily connect local producers with people in Western Newfoundland who want to buy their food?

To answer that question, Food First NL launched the Food Hub in 2021. The lessons we learned and the people we worked with during that pilot year laid the groundwork for everything the Food Hub is today.

Thanks to our amazing producers and customer support, we’ve been growing ever since.

Our Goal

Our Goal is to get local food on every plate.

That means making local food easier to buy and helping the people who grow, raise, and catch it thrive. Because when local producers and food systems thrive, our communities thrive too. That's the work the Western NL Food Hub is a part of.

Our Connection to Food First NL

Food First NL’s vision is a province where everyone can eat with joy and dignity. Enjoying delicious local food is part of that work. That’s why Food First NL runs the Food Hub as a social enterprise.

What Is a Social Enterprise?

A business with a mission at its core.

A social enterprise is a business that uses sales to advance a goal or mission. Some social enterprises send their profit to their parent organization. Others, like the Food Hub, put that profit back into the business so they can serve the community even better.

You place an order

Every purchase supports local producers and the Food Hub.

Producers have control

Each producer sets their own prices and controls what they sell and how much.

Profits go back in

The Western NL Food Hub reinvests all profits back into the social enterprise to grow and serve the community better.
